When it comes to comfort, we rely heavily on a reliable HVAC system to keep our homes cozy all winter and cool all summer. This is a big job! The more energy efficient your home is, the less expensive your power bill will be, and the more comfortable your home will be.
Great Energy Upgrades for Any Home
As you consider your HVAC system, it is important to think bigger than simply the heat pump, furnace, air conditioner or other machinery. Though these machines are the powerhouse of the HVAC system, they are not the only important element. Here are some other elements you should consider investing in for energy upgrades:
- Insulation: This is a huge part of how energy efficient your home is! If you are gaining or losing a lot of heat through the walls of your home, it will be much harder to maintain the desired temperature. Attics can be an important area to address when an insulation upgrade is necessary.
- Air Sealing: Another important energy upgrade is air sealing. In addition to insulation, you may wish to invest in air sealing, particularly around areas like chimneys that are notorious areas of heat gain and loss.
- Air Duct Sealing: In addition to sealing around areas like the chimney, it is important to pay attention to the air duct system. Any compromises to the air duct system may result in unwanted heat gain or loss. Make sure energy upgrades include duct sealing when needed!
